There’s no denying vegetarian and veganism is on a steep incline here in Australia with more and more products suitable for these diets becoming readily available for all. If you are one of our vegan customers we are positive you’ve noticed products from the wonderful vegetarian butcher Suzy Spoon hiding in your box. You may wonder why she calls herself a butcher, but you see, there is actually quite a simple explanation. Suzy creates her own sausages, burger patties and schnitzels and all other things a butcher does, minus the whole ‘slaughtering of animals’ part!

Before we get into the product side of things, we want you to get to know the wonder woman behind these delicious vegetarian goods.

Suzy grew up within the meat industry. In fact, her grandparents owned one of Sydney’s biggest butchers! She was raised on a farm and ate meat regularly. It wasn’t until she was 16 years old when she started working inside the sheds on a chicken broiler farm in New Zealand that she realised the cruelty behind eating meat. Now, 28 years later, she has not eaten meat since.

Suzy started up her business as she felt the vegan products available in supermarkets were tasteless, rubbery and highly processed. She had been making handmade vegan smallgoods for her friends and family for many years and realised it seemed only obvious that the next step was to make it into a business! This all began in 2012, and now, 6 years later, she is producing 14 different delicious vegan products including sausages, burger patties, seitan (a form of wheat gluten), schnitzel, bolognese, lasagne, veggie balls, pepperoni and smokey rasher. Suzy also creates her very own special festive roasts for Christmas and Easter so no one misses out on having that perfect centerpiece for special occasions. How cool! If that wasn’t enough, she has also developed onion and garlic free options for those who aren’t a fan of these strong flavours. What a thoughtful woman!

She enjoys using textured vegetable protein, a range of vegan friendly spices, sauces and seitan to create replicas of the carnivorous versions. Her products are made with real ingredients, 100% plant based, dairy free, zero preservatives and none of their ingredients are genetically modified. Music to our ears! She prides herself on the care that is taken throughout the development process, which shows within the quality of their products, and we’ll vouch for that!
